What we track, and why

VGCCorner records a small set of product events to answer one question: does looking at our data actually lead to better teams? This page lists every event we record — there are no others.

Data view

You opened a data surface — the team vault, your profile stats, a team report, a replay, or the per-Pokémon analysis view in the builder. We record which surface, nothing about what you looked at inside it.

Why: Tells us whether the data surfaces people find are the ones that lead to better teams.

Team change

You made a real change to a team — moves, item, ability, nature, Tera type, EVs/IVs, or swapping a Pokémon. We record that a change happened and whether it was an edit or a swap — not what you changed it to.

Why: The product exists to turn data into better teams; this is the "better teams" half.

Loop closure

In one sitting, you looked at data and then changed your team. Recorded once per browser session.

Why: This is our north-star metric. If people look at data but never act on it, the product isn’t working.

Share opened

A shared team report or replay link was opened, with the team/replay id and whether the viewer was its owner. Logged-out viewers are counted under a random anonymous id.

Why: Tells us whether sharing actually spreads — how often a share reaches someone new.

Share led to a signup

You arrived through a shared link and created an account within 7 days. We record which team or replay brought you in.

Why: Tells us whether shared teams and replays are how new players find VGCCorner.

Team saved

You saved a team to your library — to your account, or to this browser if you’re not signed in.

Why: A saved team is the clearest sign the product produced something worth keeping.

Loop completed

As a guest, in one sitting, you picked a starter team, battled the bot, and then saw that battle on the Learn page. Recorded once per browser session, with the team id and the battle result.

Why: This is the metric for our first-session experience — whether a brand-new visitor gets the whole loop (team → play → learn) before ever creating an account.

What we will never do

  • No Google Analytics, Meta pixel, or any third-party tracker — every event above goes to our own database and nowhere else.
  • No ads, no selling or sharing data with anyone.
  • No cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting. Logged out, you are a random id stored in your own browser; clear your storage and it’s gone.
  • No personal details in events — never your email, name, IP address, or anything you type.
  • Delete your account and every event tied to it is deleted with it.

Who each event is tied to

Signed in, events are tied to your account id. Signed out, they’re tied to a random id that lives only in your browser’s storage — we can’t connect it to you, and clearing your browser data destroys it. Either way, the payload is limited to the fields described above.

This page changes whenever the events do — if we start recording something new, it shows up here first.
